Badass Digest writer Devin Faraci’s “feminism.”
Also, sweeping generalizations about Japanese culture and the content of their art.
It got worse, somehow.
And now, the conclusion to all of this
I’m going to add a bit more context to parts of this, just in case anyone is inclined to give Devin the slightest benefit of doubt about some of this.
If you look at his last response to Gabbo in the first image, you might say he wasn’t being that bad. After all, he did thank her, and though maybe he came off as a bit- oh wait, this is what he tweeted right afterwards:
Yah, way to be a condescending dismissive ass to someone who made an honest and very generous offer. He clearly didn’t even bother looking at the link to Utena, but was perfectly happy to mock Gabbo and her offer with his sarcastic following tweet.
Also, you might look at Vastroide’s accusation that he attacked a fanbase, and say “well, he clearly attacked anime, but did he ever say anything bad about people who like anime? Well, aside from mocking Gabbo right there.”
Well, he did say this.
And also this.
Yes, he did just say that people who disagree with him about anime being trash are probably convicted sex offenders. Because they like something he doesn’t. THIS is the stuff Vastroide was talking about when he said Devin brought this on himself, and Devin’s response was to compare people getting angry at him after he unjustly called them pedophiles to a rape victim getting blamed for getting raped.
He later deleted the “asking for it” tweet, saying it was a “misfire”, but he never apologized for it, and as shown in the last tweet he made to Vastroide, he feels he doesn’t need to apologize for anything he said.
Oh, and the joke that Hope got annoyed with? It was something Devin retweeted about someone pretending to like anime in order to get sex, and how therefore anime wasn’t all bad. He retweeted this right after his sex offender tweet.
So basically, “Most anime fans are sex offenders, they clearly are depraved sickos… oh and by the way isn’t lying to people to get laid totally funny? Haha!”
Speaking of lying to people, Devin also blatantly lied during this whole kerfuffle
.
If you’re familiar with anitwitter, you probably figure that’s par for the course, except, shockingly, it’s not what happened in this case. There was literally only a single person with a sexualized female cartoon avatar tweeting at him at this point.
I’m serious. http://youtu.be/i7XihfsaK7c
So either he can’t count, or he’s outright lying about the people disagreeing with him just to make them seem creepier. Given that he has no problem calling probable sex offenders, I’m guessing it’s the latter.
So yah, just a bit more context to this storm of crap.
To sum it all up, Devin made a tweet that generalized anime, got some disagreement, moved on to directly insulting anime fans and calling people who disagree with him convicted sex offenders, condescendingly dismissed and mocked someone who made an honest offer to show him an interesting series, retweeted an uncomfortable joke about lying for sex despite calling anime fans creeps, made sweeping judgments about an entire culture, compared someone saying that he had brought this crap on himself after all of that to rape culture and the horrible suffering it causes, moved on to insulting comparisons to insulting Allah, and finally felt that at the end of the day, there was nothing he needed to apologize for.
Lovely fellow right?
Reblogging this, not to throw logs on the fire or anything, but because it’s a really good summation of what *actually* happened and why I actually started calling this guy out. I could give a rat’s ass if he likes anime, hates it, whatever. It’s his behavior toward people on a personal level and all the creepy, gross things he said in completely failed attempts to be “funny” that I took such issue with.
Point is, Devin tried to slither away from it by blocking everyone he possibly could and starting to spin the narrative of “people just started attacking me because *I don’t like their pwecious anime.* Which is not at all what happened, as you can see by the actual screencaps. He’s still standing by those as “jokes,” by the way. Dismissing people because they tried to “fact-check his jokes.” I didn’t know one guy could articulate this much out of his asshole.
